  1. Although I was less than enthusiastic about getting up early on a Saturday morning the Deck the Trails run turned out to be well worth my time. I was running late as usual and had Tanner Lines save me a spot in the line without realizing this may be a bad idea. Tanner and all his athletic ability took a spot at the very front of the pack. Essentially I was standing among runners well beyond my caliber of running, and I was certain I was going to be trampled. I had little time to solve the problem because the race was about to start, so at the sound of the horn I quickly ran to the right hand side to get out of the way. Here on out I was home free. Although it was pretty cold, after about a mile I was very grateful for the temperature. I had never run through the forest before so that was a fun experience; even the stairs of death. I finished the race in 26:30, a personal best, and therefore felt no guilt over eating a cupcake later that day :). I love doing fun races like these, so if we can do this again for another six weeks I would definitely sign up!

  2. Deck the Trails was a really fun 5k! Saturday morning was very cold, and I thought that was going to make me run slow, but I actually ran my fastest 5k. My time was 22:44 which got me 8th place in my age group and 65th overall. I think the reason I achieved that time was because I started out in the front and tried to keep up with the extremely fast runners. Overall it was a great experience, and I would recommend it to anyone.

  3. I sign up for 5k's pretty regularly, so when I heard about Deck the Trails I knew that would be my blog of choice. I had been running regularly up until three weeks prior to the race when my schedule kept me from continuing my training, which led my to run my worst 5k time yet. But the experience was still fun because it was great weather for running and I got to run it with my best friend. I knew just about every person along the way which made it nice, too, because they were very supportive and cheery.

  4. The Deck the Trails 5K was a very interesting, but fun, experience! I'm not a runner, so when I was encouraged to register for the race, I was dreading it. I hardly prepared, and that definitely showed in my time and final place out of the 426 runners there. However, it was a really great experience, getting to run through the woods with my friends! My excitement afterwards has encouraged my family to run a 5k together over Christmas Break, so I'm looking forward to somewhat training and running (and by running, I mean walking) that 5k with my family! This was a great, eye-opening experience and I would definitely do this again!

  5. Deck the Trails was a fun yet freezing event! My friend visiting from OSU willingly signed up to run with me which was very supportive. I don't do a lot of runs like this but my friend and her family do a few runs throughout the year, so she knew a bit more about all of it than I did! We really enjoyed being able to see so many people participating in the event and being able to spend time together as well. Since I am also doing Relay for Life, the Deck the Trails run prepared me for lots of walking and cold weather! We both agreed that the event was very fun and for a good cause and influenced us to strive to do more runs. We also realized that we couldn't be more thankful for Starbucks!

  6. Besides the fact that I was not happy to get up early Saturday morning and be in the cold, I had a lot of fun running the Deck the Trails 5K. I'm not a runner so I wasn't to enthusiastic about the whole experience, but when I got there I was determined to finish the race as fast as I possibly could. My favorite part was the forest area, because it was quiet and not as cold. Overall, I had an amazing run, and I would do it again!

  7. Deck the Trails was a great way to spend a Saturday morning. Despite the fact that it was cold, early, and I am not a runner, I had a blast! My friends and I had so much fun running together and were able to encourage each other throughout the race. I loved running through the forest area, it was so calm and something new that I have never done before. I can't wait to do something like this again soon!

  8. Although I didn't enjoy waking up early for the Deck the Trails run, it was a good experience. I signed up for the fun run which was only a mile so it wasn't too bad. Kaitlin and I had a good time running and it was a good way to be active in the community as well as keeping myself physically fit. It was my first run, but it was an inspiration to sign up for more fun runs in the future. My dad just previously ran a marathon this past weekend so maybe one day I can work up to doing the same.

  9. Deck the Trails was a great way to not only be involved in the community but also a great way to be active. Even though I only ran a mile i had a great time running with friends. It was very cold and very early but once i started running i warmed up a little bit and woke up. It was a great way to jump start my day and gave me energy for the rest of the day. I will probably do a fun run like this sometime soon!

  10. The run was extremely fun! Even though it was pretty cold it was a really good experience. It was also pretty early and I was running on two hours of sleep which made it pretty rough, but I wouldn't take it back for anything. I was talked into it by Anna Nudo and I'm really happy she convinced me to do it.

  11. I really enjoyed the 5K! i had never ran in like an actual race thing, but i had a lot of fun! It was really cold at first, but i after i ran it was defiantly less cold but i wasn't sweaty. I liked the free food after and cups and things they gave out, it was defiantly a bonus. I would for sure do this again, it felt alot shorter than 3 miles to me, because i was having fun. I hadn't ran 3 miles in a while, so after i was felt really sore! But i enjoyed running through the park!

  12. The weather outside was frightful, yet the 5k Deck the Trails Run was actually a lot of fun. I had a jolly ol’ time getting up early, running in a tiresome race, and getting post-race casual pictures with, not only Santa, but my two favorite teachers ever! The actual race was really fun. It is so much better to run through the trails than on a boring, regular track and it made the time running seem really short. Contrary to what I had previously thought about running, I actually felt more energized throughout the rest of the day. Frankly, before running, I thought the race was going to be miserable and that simply finishing the 5k would be a Christmas miracle, but I actually had a great time and would be more than willing to run a 5k again sometime!
