Throughout the school year, you have been encouraged to make healthier lifestyle choices. What major topics stuck with you this year? What changes do you feel you have made based on what you learned in this classroom? Have you shared this information with others, and if so, how do you feel you have impacted their lives and overall wellness?
This year, the biggest topic that stuck out to me was the nutrition lesson. After learning all about nutrition, I started making conscious decisions to eat healthier. I started eating bread and other foods with the first ingredient as whole wheat, as well as eating more fruits and vegetables. I also substituted package snacks with healthier options and cut out the majority of fast food eating. Overall, I feel so much better by changing my diet. I started telling people about the positive effects of eating healthier, and I’ve especially helped my family by choosing healthier options for dinner and encouraging them to get more active.
ReplyDeleteThroughout the school year, I was encouraged to make healthier lifestyle choices. Some major topics that stuck with me this year are drinking more water, getting exercise for at least 30 minutes every day, and eat smaller portions of better food. I have made all of these changes because of things I have learned in anatomy. During our teacher weight loss challenge, certain groups were given the chance to sit in with a trainer and ask her as many questions as we needed. I used this opportunity not only to help our client, but to also get a better idea of what I should be doing every day for exercise. During our brief study over simple sugars and processed foods, I was able to see all of the bad things that are in the foods I eat almost every day. It educated me on the harm I am doing to my body and scared me into having a better diet. I also learned just how important it is to rehydrate your body all day long. I know that these changes have impacted my life because I have already lost 25 pounds. I have also shared this information with my family and friends and started a workout group. We encourage each other to get moving every day and keep one another accountable for our eating habits as well. This class has taught me and others so many things this year that we can take with us throughout the rest of our lives!
ReplyDeleteSome major topics that have stuck with me this year are food nutrition, food labels and fat content in food. I have definitely made some changes in my life when it comes to eating healthy after discussing these topics. I have started eating fruit instead of junk food for snacks in-between meals, I look at the serving size on foods so that I don’t overeat and I have also started eating less than I used to. I have shared this nutritional information with my parents and they have definitely considered it, but they haven’t made any changes in their lifestyles yet.
ReplyDeleteAnatomy has taught me so many things about my body that I was hoping I would learn in the beginning of this year. I was eager to take this class because I knew it would teach me the proper way to eat healthy, what I should be doing to help my body and also what advertisements showed skewed opinions about what is healthy for the body. My favorite unit was the nutrition unit because I learned how much protein, carbs, sugar and other nutrients I should be taking in daily. I've always eaten healthy but it taught me how to improve my methods. I liked learning about the dynamics of what bad foods had on my body because I found it interesting in seeing how my body reacts. It motivated me even more to stay far away from terrible foods. Since we learned how to properly read nutrition labels, I now look at the labels of wheat bread and packages that say low fat. I also have told my mom about the proper way to shop for wheat bread and she buys it now for our family.
ReplyDeleteThis year, the topics that have stuck with me the most have been the nutrition with reading food labels and knowing which foods are good for you. I never really paid attention to the foods I ate and was okay with anything as long as it tasted good. I didn't know how extremely unhealthy my diet was until thoroughly learning this topic. Based on what I have learned in this classroom, I have made a lot of changes in order to be healthier. I have cut down on how much fast food I eat and started exercising normally for the first time in years! I feel a lot better about myself and have realized how beneficial diet and exercise can be not only for the health of my body, but for reducing stress and just being more calm and happy. I have shared a lot of the information I have learned this year with my family since we all have poor eating habits and lack of exercise. I have tried to motivate my father to get up and moving because of all of our family history with illnesses which can be brought on by being inactive and overweight. The lesson on diabetes really hit home for me because most of my extended family has diabetes and it made me realize that I really need to start taking care of my body so that later in life I am hopefully not diagnosed with diabetes. Anatomy has helped me to get motivated to make healthier lifestyle choices which I will carry with me through college and after!
ReplyDeleteIn anatomy this year i really learned a lot about the body and how to be healthy. Since i play baseball and exercise regularly, the topics concerning diets and food really appealed to me. I never realized that diabetes was such a big problem in America. I have been eating less sugar by eliminating candy completely and eating less sugary foods. I also try to eat more fruit and vegetables. I found that the more you eat fruits and vegetables the better tasting they become. This has left me feeling more energetic and healthier. I feel like it is important to me to have healthy eating habits going into college. I want to live a long time so i am trying to live as healthy as possible.
ReplyDeleteThis year, I learned how to read food labels and monitor the foods I eat. Because my family has problems with high blood pressure and high cholesterol, I need to more concerned about eating healthy. I decreased the amount of junk food I consume and mainly eat fruits as a snack instead of potato chips or cookies. After learning how to read food labels correctly, I now know that some foods that may seem healthy are not actually good for you. I also limit my food portions and look at the labels for fat and sugar content. I have shared this information with my family and my mom always asks me whether a certain food is healthy to eat. I feel more energized and will continue to watch what I eat.
ReplyDeleteThe nutrition unit had a great impact on me, for it taught me a lot about fast food, reading nutrition labels, and the importance of things such as proteins, carbohydrates and water in my diet. Of all of these things the thing that had the greatest impact on me was learning about nutrition labels. After seeing that portion sizes are often distorted, I realized that the calories advertised are not really correct and I began to calculate my calories more accurately. Also, by looking at the list of ingredients I was able to tell if something was truly whole wheat or not and understood that some advertising labels can be very misleading. Changes I have made are using actual whole wheat bread, decreasing my portion size, and counting calories more accurately. Also, after learning about the lack of nutrition in fast food I have made it a point to limit how much take out I get. If I do eat out then I try to balance the rest of my meals accordingly. I have shared this information with my family, who has also agreed to eat more home-cooked meals and be more conscious of calorie intake. I feel like I have had a positive impact on my family because they are now more cognizant of their eating habits. This healthy lifestyle hopefully helps them feel good about themselves and continue to feel active.
ReplyDeleteOne of the major topics that stuck out to me was defiantly the nutrition section where we learned about eating healthy and what to look for in foods. Ive never been a healthy eater but after leaning about all the fats and awful ingredients there is in most foods that i eat i have made a complete change in the way i look at most foods now and i always look at labels when im at the grocery store. I have talked to one of my really good friends about it just because were always together and if shes not exercising and eating better then im never going to be able to keep up with it. I also have been talking to my mom about it cause she is very big about eating healthy and staying away from bad foods so having her motivation and knowledge from this class and what we learned im on the way to a healthy lifestyle for college which is exciting.
ReplyDeleteThroughout the school year I have learned a lot of new things about my body. The major topics that stuck with me were the nutrition and brain units. I never knew anything about what daily consumption of certain things like sugar and fats should be, so I found learning about that very useful. I also now know how to read a food label, which I have found helpful when trying to make decisions of what food to purchase. My new knowledge of proper nutrition will most definitely come in handy next year in college as I will obviously no longer be able to eat home cooked meals. The unit about the brain was also very helpful to me. I think it is so interesting how everything in the brain works. My grandfather actually was recently diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, so I decided to research the disease for my IR project. Most likely if I were not in this class I would not have taken the time to do so. I have found my new knowledge of Alzheimer’s to be extremely beneficial at home as my mom and I take care of my grandfather. For the most part I have not made many drastic changes to my lifestyle. However, I do try to check every food label when I grocery shop, and I think twice about eating out. I have shared my new nutrition knowledge and Alzheimer’s knowledge with my mom. Now whenever she grocery shops she tries to only buy fresh vegetables and 100% whole wheat bread. Overall, with my new knowledge of nutrition I have been able to make my mom’s grocery shopping experience much easier. I also have been able to help my mom deal with my grandfather and understand his disease with the information I learned from my Alzheimer’s Disease research project.
ReplyDeleteThe topic that really stuck out to me this year would have to be the nutrition and how it effects your lifestyle. After we did all the food labels labs and researched how you body will end up if you have a high fat diet, I have definitely started eating a lot better. My in-between meal snacks are getting healthier and smaller. I also have brought this information to my family. My dad has told me on multiple occasions that he would like to lose a few pounds but he stick with his new diet for a few days and then goes back to the old him. I put it on me to make sure he is eating better because I don't want to see him get older and have really high blood pressure or have a stroke or heart attack at a younger age or if I can help it, ever. My family sees me as a "health freak" now because of all the changes I try to make to everyone's diet and the food that my mom gets from the grocery store because I don't want our family to be out of shape.
ReplyDeleteThroughout the school year the major topic we studied that stuck with me was nutrition/diet/exercise. I've devoted large portions of my life this year on working out/running/playing soccer, so being physically fit and healthy was a priority of mine. Being able to learn in our Anatomy class about all of the food products that were good/bad for me really helped motivate me to change my eating habits and lifestyle. I stick with full, balanced meals with few snacks in-between. I put much more emphasis on what's on the food label rather than the front of the box, and by surrounding myself with other people who are healthy or fit, I've been able to live easily with my newfound lifestyle and really immerse myself in healthy activities.
ReplyDeleteThis year in anatomy I've learned a lot about how the human body functions well and how to be healthy. I exercise regularly in a variety of ways such as swimming, running, and lifting weights. The portion of the class where we discussed being healthy in concern to food and diets and exercise really applied to me personally. I've never realized the true science behind diseases such as diabetes and the widespread nature of this problem. Due to the topics discussed, I have begun to eat much healthier, and I have completely cut out soda from my diet. I also try to add fruits and vegetables to my diet as often as I can to further improve my health. All of the things I have learned in regards to diets will truly help me in college as I'm on my own and will have to make my own choices, especially with what I consume. The healthy meals and healthy lifestyle I've learned about are things that can help me as I live on my own. I hope to live as long as possible and by eating healthy and exercising regularly,I can achieve this goal.
ReplyDeleteThis year, one of the topics that really stuck with me was the McDonalds experiment. It truly grossed me out for good and I have been clean of fast foods since January. Although this project was after January, it helped me to remember when I'm craving fast food to stop and realize it is not worth it. Another thing that has really stuck with me this year has been the nutrition labels. Every time I pick up a food at the grocery store, I no longer look at the calories or fats or carbs. I go straight the ingredients and it has forced me to make many changes such as changing from white bread bagels (enriched/bleached flours) to whole wheat bagels. It tastes the same and it's so much healthier. I will continue to make these little changes throughout the next years in my life so that I can stay healthy through college and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
ReplyDeleteThis year in anatomy, I learned a lot about the body and the many different functions of it. In turn, this has encouraged me to start eating healthy and cut fast food out of my diet. Two things inspired me to do this. They include the McMush lab and the topic of diabetes as well. When I learned that diabetes can be caused by obesity based on your diet, it made me decide that I would eat healthier. Though my weight is not a factor at the moment, I'm not exactly sure of whats to come in the future, so why not start those good habits now. I have also started working more and have participated in recreational sports outside of school with friends and run at least three times a week. Overall, I believe that anatomy has put me on the right path to living a healthy lifestyle and I strongly believe that I will continue to over the years because of this impact.
ReplyDeleteThis year in anatomy, I have learned a lot about changing my lifestyle into a healthy one. The section that had the most impact on me was the nutrition section. When we learned about fast food restaurants, I have really began to cut it out of my diet. I always knew that fast food was bad for you, but when we went into more detail and depth (especially the McMush lab) it made me not want to eat fast food. The biggest thing that impacted me was when we magnified the burger and could literally see the fat. I do not eat hamburgers at all anymore. I told my parents about this and they too have began to cut out their fast food and have actually lost some weight. In the future, I hope that my family and I can completely cut out fast food and only eat healthy foods.
ReplyDeleteThough I have learned so much in anatomy this year, I would definitely have to say that the nutrition chapter really stuck with me the most. After learning the daily intake I should have for things like sodium, sugar, and protein, I feel like I have been able to portion out my food in order to have a healthy intake for the day. Also after doing the healthy challenge for another blog post earlier this year, I have completely cut out sodas! Plus I try to incorporate more fruits and veggies into my diet! I also look at ingredients on the nutrition labels, something I did not always used to before. Generally I feel like I am making healthier decisions than before the nutrition chapter. Most of the people in my family knew the nutrition facts I learned in class, but when I grocery shop with them I am more attentive towards the food we buy and pay attention to the nutrition labels more. I guess my new found nutrition knowledge has encouraged them to continue making healthy choices even more than before.
ReplyDeleteI've learned so much this year in anatomy! Everything we've learned has stuck in my brain, nutrition, fitness, the brain etc. but the thing I use daily is nutrition and exercise. Since I've been in this class I've been eating healthier and actually working out, or at least running everyday. I've noticed lately I've been able to run for a longer period of time and continuously. I've be much more confident with everything I do and I feel more rested overall. I will continue this into my college days and beyond for a healthier happier life.
ReplyDeleteThis school year, the unit that encouraged men to make batter lifestyle choices was the biggest loser teacher edition. Seeing our teacher continuously work and stick to a plan encouraged me to implement changes such as more strenuous workouts. Also, these past few months, I have reduced the amount of soda I normally have by a huge percentage. I don't feel like I have impacted others through my choices, but I know personally I have benefited from the course. It is really up to what the individual wants to get out of the course, and I feel I got a lot out of it.
ReplyDeleteWhen I decided to take anatomy, I expected to cut things open and learn about the organs, which is what we did, however we also learned so much more than that! I was not expecting to learn about my body and how to keep it healthy, which is what will probably stick to me the most. Having to look up the different restaurants and their calorie counts really was an eye opener for me because those were most of the restaurants that I ate at, and I never knew how many calories I was actually consuming! Also, I thought it was cool how we learned how to become aware of certain products’ false advertisements and how we learned how to “shop” healthy. For example, now that I know that unless the ingredients of bread say whole grain on it, then it probably isn’t good for me. I have already brought this into my family by constantly telling my mom every time we go grocery shopping to buy good bread. Also, learning about the heart and how it functions, along with the kidney and other digestive organs has also encouraged me to become healthier.
ReplyDeleteAnatomy taught many different topics, but the topic that stuck with me the most definitely is nutrition. Learning the truth about the ingredients in food and the serving sizes and the consequences of all of that has really affected how I eat and exercize. Since learning how to read food labels and recognizing nutrition has made me more cautious about the food I eat, and how bad or good it can be for me. Not only has my eating changed but so has my excercising, I started running and working out. I joined my mom, aunts, and uncle for a run against cancer for next weekend because my grandma passed away from lung cancer. So not only am I working out but so is my family. What I have learned about taking care of myself, in what I eat and what I do, is something that I hope will help me be healthier even in the future.
ReplyDeleteThis year in anatomy, I have learned alot about changing my lifestyle into a healthy lifestyle. The major topic that had the most impact on me was the nutrition section. After learning and going into more detail(McMush lab) about how fastfood is bad for you, I really did not eat fastfood anymore especially after seeing that hamburger magnified. I have been eating healthy fresh fruits and vegetables that give my body vitamins and minerals like grapes, corn, brocoli, apples, green beans, salad, and etc. I have also been eating healthy foods that give my body protein like chicken, steak, eggs, fish, granola bars, whole grain cashew butter sandwiches, and etc. Not only that, but the only beverages I ever drink now is water or milk with protein mixed in it. I have not shared this information with anyone else, but if I do I hope to share it in a way that will motivate them into living my healthy lifestyle.
ReplyDeleteThroughout this whole year, the topic of nutrition has really stuck with me. Although I already knew basic knowledge about nutrition such as the food pyramid, and what foods are healthy for you, I did not know specific facts and information about nutrition. After taking anatomy this year, I learned that there are actually types of fats that are good for you (Monosaturated and polysaturated fats). I also learned how to read all the elements on food labels instead of just looking at the amount of calories. Another thing I learned about nutrition this year is how to identify the nutritional value of a food based on it's ingredients. For example, when choosing bread from a grocery store, it is important to choose a loaf with the first ingredient listed as whole wheat flour rather than a loaf with enriched flour. After learning about nutrition, I was more aware of what I eat, when I eat, and how much I eat. I have started to pay more attention to the sodium content, and fat content on the nutritional facts label on food products. I felt that it was important to share what I have learned with my family because living a healthy lifestyle can't harm anyone. My dad was recently diagnosed with diabetes so our meals at home have changed, and we do not go out to eat as often as we used to. I was able to help my mom plan meals that would be healthy for my dad to eat, and it turns out my mom, dad, and I have lost weigh from eating healthy and working out daily.
ReplyDeleteI have learned so many things this year, but the topics that stuck out to me were how to keep your heart healthy and how to prevent diabetes. I've always been told to eat healthy, but I never really considered the consequences of eating poorly until I took this class. In the United States, many people suffer a heart attack or develop type 2 diabetes because of their eating habits. These are preventable for the most part. I do not want to have either of those, so I have been trying to eat more vegetables. Next year in college, I will try to make healthy choices. My dad loves sweets so I've been trying to make him cut back on desserts. I also am going to exercise frequently this summer!
ReplyDeleteThroughout the course of the 2011-2012 school year, anatomy has taught me many valuable lessons on how to live a healthy lifestyle. Overall, I would have to say that the most beneficial thing I have learned about achieving a healthy lifestyle is nutrition. As a class, we learned the ins and outs of a healthy diet and how to recognize what foods are being deceitful. For example, we leaned how to properly read a nutrition label. Our goal was to recognize which foods were better than others, through recognition of serving size and which ingredient is mentioned first on the label. Another example of a great lesson about nutrition, was the lab where we grinned up a hamburger meal a McDonalds. The meal consisted of a cheeseburger, french fries, apple slices, and a sprite. Through tests on the mush of food, we really saw how bad this type of food was for our bodies. Just from the enhanced image of McDonalds meat, I never wanted to eat a burger from there again. The meat had fat all over, making it look unreal. This lab made me think twice about the type of foods I would eat at fast food places. These teachings made me more aware of the types of foods that I put into my body. I have now become aware of food labels and force myself to recognize if the food that I am about to eat is actually healthy for me. I have made a lifestyle change to pick out foods in the grocery store that have healthy ingredients, low calories, and beneficial effects on my body. I am glad to say that I have made a change in my diet to one that consist of healthy foods from healthy sources. Currently, I am eating more fruits and healthy sources of proteins such as steak, eggs, and salmon. I have shared all my in-class experiences with my parents to get them to see fast food and unhealthy foods the way I do now. Overall, I believe that I have influenced them to cut out fast food and focus on cooking healthy foods for our family. From this influence I am improving their wellness and their overall diet.
ReplyDeleteThis year in anatomy and physiology I have learned how lifestyle choices is the most important factor in your overall health. Some major topics that stuck with me this year was in the beginning of the year when we learned about diabetes, lessons over nutrition and heart disease. These are all important topics to remember, especially out of the classroom. In addition, doing the Cowboy Challenge showed me even minute changes back a big difference. Even before taking this class, my diet and exercise were always important to me, especially because I’m a gymnast. I always needed to stay at a healthy weight and keep my strength up to be successful. However, taking anatomy taught me the specifics about a healthy diet and long-term effects of poor lifestyle choices. Because of this class I started to make some changes of my own. When it comes to nutrition I have been starting to cut out some more sugary drinks and foods like soda and juice. I try to treat myself in proportions. When I am at the grocery store I try to focus on breads and grains that are whole wheat, snacks with less fat, and more variety. I now know that the more colors on my plate the better. I have shared the information that I learned with my parents and siblings. For an entire week my mom and I didn’t drink soda, and now we barely keep it in the house. I have also encouraged my family to exercise more. Now once in a while when I don’t have gym I go to the gym with my mom and/or sister and we do a workout together. I will keep what I learned from this class forever and constantly apply it to my everyday life. Health is the most important thing for me because without it I wouldn’t have anything else.
ReplyDeleteThis year in anatomy I learned a lot about health and nutrition, however, my mission to be healthy started way before the 4th six weeks. I have done by best to eat healthy and choose healthier snacks when i get home from school. I now understand what components make something unhealthy and do my best to avoid unnecessary sugars and sodium. I have made a conscience effort to pick breads with whole grain or wheat as the first ingredient. This change in habit has made a noticeable difference. I no longer feel as tired and sluggish as I did before and the improved diet is to thank. As i go on to college in a matter of months, i plan on taking everything that i have learned thus far with me. I have every intention of continuing to educate myself about healthy lifestyle choices and will share those tips with people around me.
ReplyDeleteDuring the start of the year prior to this class, I didn't bother to look at what I was eating, how much I was exercising, and had no idea what I wanted to do in the future (profession-wise). Though we learned about all the different parts of the body, the nutrition unit has stuck with me the most, as I have been able to experience a healthy lifestyle change alter someone else's life with hands on experience. Because of anatomy, I now check the things that I eat to make sure that I am eating healthier as well as sometimes critiquing others eating habits. As well as eating habits, I make sure that I work out at least once every day at the YMCA of on my own to maintain fitness. Lastly, after learning pretty much all there is about the body, I have chosen one of my future professions to possibly be a physical therapy which anatomy has really opened me up to.
ReplyDeleteEver since I decided to take anatomy, I was expecting to cut things open and learn about the different organs we were seeing. I didn’t really expect us to learn about healthy decisions for our bodies and how to keep them healthy. I think that was something that has stuck with me since we learned all about healthy choices. I’m finding myself not wanting to eat out at fast food places because I know I can cook something way healthier for me then eating all theses unhealthy calories that are in the different fast foods. I also think it was cool how we learned about the false advertising when we look at the different labels of the different foods where we were comparing them to each other to see which one of them was really better for you. I have even noticed a change in my family about starting to eat healthy. There is no longer soda in the refrigerator and less junk food in the kitchen too. My mom even tries to cook a healthy meal every night instead of ordering out or picking something up on her way home from work.
ReplyDeleteThe major topic that stuck with me this year was the nutrition topic and reading nutrition labels. I have learned lots of new things on how to read a label. For example some companies try and deceive the consumer by saying that the snack serves two people even though it is in a small pack that is obviously is for one person. Since I am a stocker at a grocery store, I can now help all the customers make better choices for their health. I believe this is a necessary skill for anyone that works at a grocery store, and the customers really do appreciate the help!
ReplyDeleteThis year in anatomy has taught me alot, from what is in the body to how it functions to how to treat the body correctly. The topic of nutrition that we covered this year taught me so much about what is being put into my body and overall how to make your body healthier. From this lesson, I've taken away alot of life lessons that I have put to use. I try and drink 6-7 glasses of water a day to keep hydrated, I make sure to have breakfast every morning because I've realized how important it is to kickstart your metabolism for the day, and I've started incorporating more fruits and vegetables into my daily diet. I have also begun to notice the labels and ingredient lists for the food that I am eating. By learning how misleading that information is in class, I have began to understand what I am eating and how it effects my overall health. Also in anatomy, I have learned the importance of exercise and completed my first 5k, the Color Run, because of this class. I hope to continue to exercise regularly and participate in fun runs, eat healthy and learn more about my body.
ReplyDeleteMy expectation when signing up for an anatomy class was to dissect animals and memorize bones. Although we have covered both of these in depth, we have covered a variety of other interesting topics as well. The nutrition unit was especially beneficial to me. Throughout the unit, I was surprised to find that many food items I believed to be healthy were actually unhealthy, due to false advertising. Specifically, after discussing whole wheat bread in class, I discovered that my bread was actually not whole wheat. I had thought I was eating something healthy, but when I read the ingredients and found that wheat was not the main ingredient, I was motivated to look at other foods as well. Since the nutrition unit, I have been careful about what I eat, specifically with packaged food. Foods like nuts and a variety of fruits have replaced packaged foods for my snacks. By making small changes in my eating habits, I have intrigued my mom on the topic of nutrition as well. She has been interested in what I have learned about healthy eating, and I have shared many tips with her. I think my eating habits will stick with me because I enjoy eating healthy. Being involved with the healthy cowboy challenge has motivated me as well after observing teachers change their lifestyle.
ReplyDeleteLearning about nutrition made me change my habits a lot. I still have some bad habits and I drink more soda than I really should. But nowadays, I try to eat healthier snacks and I look more at nutrition labels. I taught my grandmother how to read nutrition labels. She was so shocked that the label told you how many servings were in a package. When I go shopping with my mother, she asks me to read the labels for her so she can pick the healthiest food. I'm like the label whisperer. It's crazy.
ReplyDeleteAfter taking this class, I pay more attention to myself and taking care of my body. I know I'm really lazy and don't exercise enough, but I can still eat healthily no matter what and I want to take care of myself more.
When I walked into Anatomy class at the beginning of the year, I believed I was the healthiest I could possibly be. Little did I know that the majority of "healthy" foods are misleading, and that my diet was sub-par. Since becoming aware of how to spot differences in bread types, hidden ingredients, and other pseudo names for glucose, my diet has improved vastly. At home, I took the lesson to heart by making my mom get rid of all the trans-fats in the pantry and refrigerator, as well as depriving the fridge of soft drinks. This has helped my whole family out especially with my sister eating healthy to preform her best in soccer. My mom has been slowly losing weight (thank goodness), and my dad hasn't had any signs of high blood pressure. Although I do believe my family could be healthier with more exercise, this is still a good foundation for them to work on. On a personal note, my new healthy diet has me cutting down my weight to get those perfectly sculpted muscles and chiseled abs that I dream over. :o)
ReplyDeleteMy eating habits were probably one of the biggest changes for me this year. I was aware that I ate a lot of unhealthy food, but I didn't really pay much attention to it, but taking this class has informed of all the risks and dangers from not eating healthy. I discussed with my mom all the things that I've learned and at the start of the new year my mom and I have been gradually changing what our family eats every night. Also we've been buying fresh vegetables as opposed to canned ones, and we've been buying healthier snacks from Sprouts as well. I've also increased my water intake too. I'm used to not drinking a lot of water, but after the last blog post where, we had to change something about ourselves for five days I decided to challenge myself and see if I could continue to keep myself hydrated.
ReplyDeleteI never thought I needed help with my diet up until this year. Turns out I did need help. A lot of help. As the year progressed, we (the students) were encouraged to live healthier lifestyles. This became especially apparent during the nutrition section of this year’s curriculum. We were taught to look at a label which was not something I never did before, and as it turns out, I eat a lot of unnecessary calories, and even more unnecessary sodium. As I started to mold diet plan that would help our client in the healthy cowboy challenge, I was forced to look at my own diet. This year in the classroom not only taught me that it’s important to be healthy, but it also taught me how to be healthy.
ReplyDeleteI have never really thought about all of the food that I put into my body until this year, learning the effects of what happens if I eat the wrong things. I now drink a lot less soda due to all the sugar in it and I put less salt on my food, trying to reduce the risk of high blood pressure. After trying to give up all drinks but water for a challenge in this class I tried earlier this year, I found that I feel a lot better about myself and a lot healthier as well. I also find myself reading food labels a lot before I eat a meal. This class has helped me be a healthier person.
ReplyDeleteWhen I signed up for anatomy I expected a little bit of memorizing, a little bit of being grossed out and a lot of learning....my expectations were quite correct. I have learned a lot this year from the bones and muscles to what a cat uterus looks like with babies inside of it. I took most from this year, skills that can make my life more healthy. I started eating way less fast food and eating less red meat and replacing these "bad" foods with more healthy options. Through the nutrition unit and the healthy cowboy challenge, I not only learned what was the more healthy options but I also learned how to put these healthy options into action in my life.
ReplyDeleteOf all the many interesting things I learned this year, the one I will remember for the rest of my life is nutrition. Before I went to this class, I had some general knowledge about product labels, but I never relaized how much I didn't know. Things like fat and sugar free products, whole grains, and how product labels can fool you. I'm also amazed at what I didn't know about diets. I used to think they were something like a punishment where your life is ruled by them, but I relaized diets are not a strict set of rules, they are a few adjustments that you make to your eating habits. I also learned that excercise is not torture, it can be fun. I've been able to change my mother's knowledge about what is really good and what is not and now I feel that I can eat healthy in the future if I put my mind to it.
ReplyDeleteBeing in Anatomy this year has taught me multiple things. One of the main things I have learned is how to live a healthier life. The healthier you eat the better you feel about yourself. You need the right type of nutrition daily to be able to workout and get through the day. Before this class I usually would never look at the food label to see what i was about to intake. Now i am more aware of what i am eating and what the food labels actually mean. Lots of the time the labels wont say everything you need to know, and will just say the good things and keep out the bad. I am glad that i am finally aware of this and actually starting to live a more healthy life.
ReplyDeleteThis year in anatomy one of the lessons that really stuck out were the ones we had on food labels. I never took a close look at the nutrition labels on food and kinda assumed that whatever the companies advertised was the truth. When we did the lab where we walked around and tried to decipher the food labels it was an eye opener. When I saw some of the foods brands I eat and how they measured up to healthier brands I realized that you can't always trust what companies advertise. Now when we go grocery shopping my mom takes me along as a buffer to pick out the healthier choice.
ReplyDeleteOne major topic that stuck with me this year in Anatomy was the Healthy Cowboy Challenge it taught me just how hard it is for people to lose weight as well as how much effort and dedication you need to put forth to achieve your goal. I feel as if everyone in anatomy has learned plenty of information on how healthy you need to be and will hopefully pass it on to friends and family members so they can live a healthier lifestyle! I’ve shared my information I’ve learned with my cousins and family members, they are all now trying to become more healthy and my mom/dad are trying to lose weight and gain muscle! Hopefully they will achieve the goals they’ve set!
DeleteThis year in Anatomy I learned a lot about health and nutrition. After learning all about nutrition I decided to make some decisions in my eating habits. I started eating bread and other foods with the first ingredient being whole wheat, before I thought I was eating whole wheat bread but then found out it was actually bad for you if the first ingredient was enriched wheat flour. I started eating more fruits and vegetables and decided to eliminate soda and drinks that have high sugar from my diet. Through the nutrition unit and the healthy cowboy challenge I have learned about the more healthier options and will continue to eat healthier.
ReplyDeleteThe most important topic that has stuck to me is the nutrition topic. I never knew about how "fake" our food can be and how disgustingly it is processed. I can't help but to read food labels now and stay away from breads because I know that they're just bleached out white rather than containing whole wheat like it says on the bag. I eat healthier when it comes to drinking teas too because a lot of them actully contain high fructose corn syrup. I have influenced my whole family on which breads they eat, which peanut butter to buy, which jelly to trash, and just educating them on how wrong they've been eating because they have been lied to by the food label. Grocery shopping takes longer and the food gets more expensive at times, but I like knowing that I am getting healthy food into my body. The healthy cowboy challenge has helped me out as well in finding out which restaurants are noutrishly bad for you. Being on the nutrition team has helped me out in finding quick and easy yet healthy recipes that I know I can use in college too.
ReplyDeleteThis past year in anatomy helped me choose a career path for starting collage. The lesson and project that helped me best were learning all of the muscles and bones, because this will help when I take medical classes in collage, and the project was when we were able to work with clients over their health. I loved working at this project and thoroughly enjoyed helping our clients. All of these will stick with me as I go to collage and study sports medicine.
ReplyDeleteFew major topics that stuck with me this year were the health and nutrition ones. It could be because they are the most recent, but I think it’s because it actually affects me. Knowing body parts and how they work may help someone who aims to have a future in the medical field, but to be honest I have no interest in that field so I probably forgot everything after the test. Despite that, knowing what makes me healthier and keeps me in good shape actually is something I was interested in because it affects my everyday life. That led to me gradually changing my eating habits a little bit, and more aware of what leads to an unhealthy lifestyle. So overall this information basically led me to knowing how to keep myself in good shape which will help me for the rest of my life. I’ve shared some of these facts with family and friends who were following various misconceptions that I also believed to be true before I took Anatomy.
ReplyDeleteThe one lesson from Anatomy that will really stick with me is the lesson about nutrition. Before we discussed nutrition, I only had a basic knowledge of how different foods affect the body. The lesson gave me a deeper understanding of how our body reacts to the things we eat. Knowing how to read and understand food labels is something that I feel is really beneficial to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. After this lesson, I have been trying to stay away from soda. I also try to eat more whole grain, which is easy for me now since I know how to tell if it's in food based on the food lable. I shared a lot of the information I learned with my mom, who has made a lot of changes in her diet. She has been very successful and is losing weight, but more importantly she is becoming healthier.
ReplyDeleteOne of the big things that stuck out to me in anatomy was how eating habits and exercising are important to leading a healthy lifestyle. It does not only depend on your weight or how you look, but eating habits now, can affect your future. Both of my grandfathers have diabetes and when we did a case study over diabetes I learned that I need to be eating healthier and working out regularly. Before I go off to school next year, I want to make a change in my diet by eating more fruits, vegetables, and protiens. Anatomy has taught me that healthy choices now will keep me healhty in the future.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed all the topics covered in Anatomy this year, but the topic that stuck with me the most this year was the nutrition topic and how important it is to read nutrition labels carefully. I learned that some food companies try and trick the buyer by putting things like "multi grain" when really whole grain is what you want, or they make the serving size smaller so there appear to be less calories. I now pay attention to the serving size and I look at what I’m actually buying not what there is a picture of on the front.
ReplyDeleteThis year in anatomy I have learned multiple things. One thing that I learned this year was how to live a healthier lifestyle. Through the Biggest Loser/Cowboys Challenge, it has taught me how to adjust my own lifestyle and not just helping others. I pay attention to wha I consume every day rather than eating out at fast food restaurants every night. By choosing to eat healthier, it has made my worksout better and has given me more energy throughout the day. I have personally enjoyed learning more about my health to provide myself a better lifestyle and future. I am glad that I chose to take anatomy this year because it has provided me with information that will be helpful for my future.
ReplyDeleteThis class has definitely altered my perception and awareness, for the better if not best. Before, I hadn't been quite as concerned with reading food labels simply because I had never learned what to even look for nor was I as inclined to cook my own meals. Now, I actively strive to make every if not most meals that I eat along with providing healthier options for my family.
ReplyDeleteThe anatomy portion of class has affected me too, strangely enough. Already interested to an extent in the body thanks to dissections and what little I'd learned about from the nervous system and my prior psychology class. I found myself after lessons going through the anatomy textbook again and again, familiarizing myself with the various terms and components that make up my body. I am hyper aware of the components of the human form now, when before I wasn't as confident in my understanding.
This class was one of the best that I've had in a good long while, and I have no regrets about taking the AP portion of this class. If anything, I am grateful for the class because of how much crystallized intelligence I have obtained from my experiences here. I loved this class, loved the manner in which it was taught, and I'm amazed with how much it's been changing people.
In Anatomy, I have learned alot that has made me rethink my eating habits. Even learning about all the systems, all the commentary on the side about what bad foods do to your body has changed my outlook on my diet. I look at calories and i have learned what amount i need to consume, what kind of fats i should eat and what i shouldnt eat. I rarely eat fast food anymore because i now know whats in it and how much fat and bad things it contains. Im glad that i chose to take Anatomy this year, because all the things i have learned i can definitely use in the future to better myself and others.
ReplyDeleteThis year I learned a lot from this classes ranging from healthy lifestyle choices to anatomical sciences. I enjoyed these multitudes of topics I learned. The activity for healthy lifestyle that stuck to me the most was the Biggest Loser activity we saw in the auditorium. The person was very inspirational by her speech. She took us step by step through her experience and it make us realize the toil she had to go through. Anatomy influenced me to move to a career choice in healthcare. The lectures taught me a lot about the human body and also how amazing our bodies are and the secrets they behold in nutrition. I learned how to read nutrition labels which can help people become more healthier. I shared how to read labels with my family and they started to incorporate in what they buy. My family is becoming more healthier by following these guidelines.
ReplyDeleteThis year has motivated me to be healthy again. After I quit gymnastics about three years ago I didn’t see a need to keep working out because I was in such great shape. This year with the Cowboy Challenge and lessons on nutrition I realized I am no longer in great shape. I am eating healthier by choosing whole wheat bread and Greek yogurt, and those are only two out of many things I have changed in my diet for the better. The Cowboy Challenge motivated me to get moving again I am running and regularly going to the gym. I wanted to be able to talk to clients on how I got going again to give them some motivation. Anatomy has helped me make better choices with my health throughout the year.
ReplyDeleteI learned a lot of helpful information in anatomy this year that will be extremely helpful through college. However, the lessons about nutrition labels stuck with me the most. I always pay more attention to nutrition labels then I did before, and always see if the first word on the ingredients list says “whole”, make sure the sodium amount is decent, and see if there are 2 grams of fiber per 100 calories. Before the nutrition lesson I used to only pay attention to the calories, but after I learned that there is way more to it then calories. I shared the information about having 2 grams of fiber per 100 calories and sodium levels with my parents, so now every time we go to the grocery store they pay more attention to how much fiber and salt is in food.
ReplyDeleteThis year overall has taught me better lifestyle choices. The week I spent without drinking Dr. Pepper was difficult but it helped me understand how the sugars and fats had such an effect on my body. I hope that in the future I can make better choices, especially while I am alone in college at Texas Tech. I also realized that my exercise regimen needs to be put into full gear because my poor eating habits will have a huge effect on my health in the long run. My family has started eating grilled meats rather than fried foods, and my mom has us focus on eating vegetables such as asparagus and corn along side the chicken. I hope that I can find my own way of cooking these things while I am in Lubbock! Overall, this year in Anatomy has helped me understand my body better and how to improve myself over time!
ReplyDeleteAt the start of the year I was looking forward to all the dissections, and while that has been really educational and fun at the same time, I learned a lot more than I thought I ever would. The main topic that stood out to me was the nutrition section, this was the most helpful to my family and I. Learning about daily amounts of sodium, calories and more was something I learned from the start and started to take a mental note of every meal. But, there was a whole lot more to the section, like reading food labels or (how to read food labels) I should say. I am usually the one that goes with my mom to the store and now we are a lot more conscious of what we buy and what we are putting into our stomachs. We take our time and try to shop the perimeter of the store as much as possible. I have made a lot of changes dealing with food intake. Portion control was something that stood out too me as well. This year has been very beneficial to me as well as my family; we don’t eat out as much, but cook and eat meals together as a family which has been fun as well as very nutritional. Overall all my family has improved significantly from the start of the school year dealing with our overall wellness and nutrition.
ReplyDeleteThe major topic that struck me this year was nutrition. The way we eat and the nutrients we take and how does it affects our daily life is what I learned from the topic. I never cared about the food levels and I learned how important it is to determine the contents of the food and whether it is good for us or not. The other major topic I was fascinated about was the anatomy of body. The way our body functions and the way it works to prevent us from diseases. Pig dissection and cat dissection to see how body looks like and how system works. How different systems work together to maintain the proper function of body was the most important thing I learned in this class. The Healthy Cowboy Challenge also gave me a lot of knowledge of how important it is to maintain a good health and how people worked hard to maintain the healthy lifestyle. The science of human body was the most fascinating topic.
ReplyDeleteDuring my year of anatomy I have learned so many things, not only about being healthy but about the body and all the body functions. This course has not only made me a healthier person but it challenged me to make sure im eating right and to keep myself in a healthy, fit manner. Being healthy and learning about the health of the human body not only had an effect on me but on my family as well. I feel like I have improved my level of nutritional intake and watched out for different types of foods I ate while taking this course and I feel like I can continue to maintain this lifestyle to remain a healthier person.
ReplyDeleteI signed up for anatomy not so much for the class but because of Mrs. Deinhammer (I had her freshman year for biology and thought I'd do awful but the way she taught made learning easy for me!). I'm happy I chose to take this class though because I ended up getting a lot out of the class. I have never been healthy person. Working out and eating healthy has never seemed like a necessity to me. But the class has taught me a lot about health that I never took into consideration. Right now I may be skinny and seem healthy but my current eating habits can cause issues down the road. I could get osteoporosis or diabetes or many other conditions due to my unhealthy habits. One thing in particular that I've picked up on is reading food labels. Never in a million years would I think to pick up a can of food and read it's ingredients but now I find myself comparing food objects at the grocery store. Which is another thing that has shocked not only me but my parents, I've start going to the grocery store! Just last week I went twice just to get fresh vegetables because for the first time in my life I voluntarily cooked myself broccoli asparagus and carrots for dinner for no reason other than the fact that I wanted something healthy. My dad even came home shocked and asked if he knew me while my mom was so happy she offered to clean everything up for me. Anatomy has seriously changed my perspective on my health and what i eat. And while I have directed impacted few other than myself with my new knowledge I have shocked my family!
