Healthy Food Day

Cook or prepare a healthy snack for class on Friday, March 9.   Bring enough for everyone to sample, including plates or any serving necessities.  Your goal is to create something healthy and have people try new things!  Discuss what you made, what makes it healthy, and how much time was required to prepare it.

  1. I brought Crawfish Etoufee. The ingredients are onions, bell peppers, a little bit of butter, water, crawfish, rice, and spice. It is healthy because there are some vegetable that are masked by the sauce and the crawfish. A serving is about 200 calories.

  2. I brought homemade guacamole. The ingredients include avocados, cilantro, lemon, tomatoes, and onions. It is very healthy because avocados contain nearly 20 vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients. It does contain fats, but they are monounsaturated. Guacamole is very easy to make, taking about ten minutes total. Paired with blue corn tortillas, it makes for a great snack!

  3. I broght pan-seared ahi tuna steaks. The ingredients are ahi tuna, olive oil, butter, peppercorns, cayenne pepper, and salt. Tuna is a very rich source of the essential omega-3s fatty acids. As few as two tuna steaks per week is considered to be as effective as taking at least one or two omega-3 supplementations per day. One steak is about 301 calories.
