  1. So, over Spring Break I tried various different healthy "lifestyle choices." I actually kept a food and exercise log as well, thinking I would be able to upload it, but I didn't realize the blog wouldn't let you...So anyways, I tried to eat healthier things, such as wheat bread, fish, and more fruits and vegetables while also controlling portion size by looking at the serving sizes on all of my foods. Also, I used "My Fitness Pal" to help with my portion control and to help see how many calories, how much fat, how much sugar, etc. were in each food that I ate. I also made sure that I had at least half my body weight in ounces of water each day. In addition to making healthier choices with my food, I also worked out and ran over the break as well. I did an interval run one day, a bowflex workout another day along with an ab ripper x workout, and a gymnastics workout on another day. There were a couple things I learned/noticed throughout this week: it is hard to push yourself to workout, it is HARD to NOT go over the amount of sugar you are supposed to have in a day. I swear, I went over that amount every single day! Overall, I hope to continue this healthier lifestyle...I just need to find a workout buddy!

  2. During the week before spring break I gave up sweets for 5 days. For anyone who really knows me, they know that sweets are my biggest weakness. It was extremely hard for me to resist desserts for 5 whole days, but I discovered that after the first day of not eating any sweets it was easier to resist them the second day. By the end of the 5 days I wasn't even craving anything sweet and I noticed an increase in my energy level. I decided that from that day on I will only eat sweets in moderation or on special occasions.

  3. During Lent I have given up all soda and fast food. It has been a great experience and I haven't felt better. There is a definite shift in the way I feel after I eat a healthy meal. This is just a start of what I hope to do the rest of my life, and it was also a way to prove to myself that I could do it. Especially over spring break, I focused a lot on what I could do to make my lifestyle healthier. I have been progressively eating more and more whole grain along with fruits and vegetables. It's been a great few weeks and I look forward to continue this mini lifestyle "shift".

  4. This past week I decided to cut most of the yeast from my diet. This meant that i had to give up all cereals, and sandwich bread or buns, and chips. For breakfast, I switched cereal for some fruit and yogurt. I did have to get up a bit earlier to prepare it, but it was very much worth it. I also started eating my turkey burgers without buns and skipped out on the chips. I would instead have some carrots and apple slices to fill my stomach. I noticed a pretty large change in my energy levels. I was more alert in class and willing to get my homework done even after a long day. I will most certainly continue these habits and can not wait for benefits it will bring!

  5. This past week, my father and I have started taking a run everyday before dinner. We run the two mile loop around Andy Brown which is right by our home. I always try to stay active but committing to running everyday has really made me feel healthier. The first day my dad was way ahead of me but the more we run the easier it seems to get to keep up with my marathoner father. After this week, I can tell that my stamina has gotten better and I all together just feel healthier. I am definitely going to keep up this trend of running with my father because it is great bonding time along with a great way to stay healthy.

  6. For the past 5 days my mom and I have gone to a different class at the gym every night. We belong to LA Fitness and they have various classes at all times of the day. We always attend the spin classes on Monday and Wednesday because our favorite instructor teaches the class. The spin class consists of indoor cycling bikes that allow you to adjust the resistance to challenge yourself. I am not a fan of running, so spin is really a great substitute for a cardio workout. Since our goal this week was to branch out and try the other classes we attended the body works class, kickboxing class, and the step class. These classes were much different than what I was used to, but I can confirm that I am sore in places that I haven’t been before because these classes made me work different muscles. I can feel a small difference in my strength, and if I continue to go I am sure it will continue to improve. I plan to continue going to the kickboxing class because I found it to be very challenging and a lot of fun. I will also attend the body works class on a weekly basis because it will force me to use weights more often in my workout. This challenge helped me to find new classes that I enjoy, and I look forward trying other classes to vary my routine.

  7. For five days I did a daily workout and I stopped eating drive-thru food. My exercise was 30 minutes a day for five days. Everyday it got easier and easier to do the workouts. It became easier to do stuff throughout the day and I have much more energy too. I don't plan on going back to how it was five days ago, I like how I feel now.

  8. For Lent I gave up everything to drink but milk and water and I have never felt better. I feel like I have gotten a lot healthier from this experience. At first it was very hard to not have my daily soda, but I began to get used to it and now I don't even realize it when I always seem to make the choice of water over soda. It has been a great experience and I think I will continue it after Lent is over.

  9. Last week I took excess sugars out of my diet and kept my normal workout program of running and lifting weights. Cutting out cookies was by far the hardest part for me. Not having the excess in sugar made me hungrier so I ate other things like more vegetables. I didn't notice a big difference in energy because I already eat fairly healthy. I just didn't feel the crash you get after you eat sugar. I am going to try and stay away from sugar and moderate how much I have.

  10. This past week, I added more vegetables and fruit to my diet. While I do know the health benefits to eathing these, I noticed that some foods (particularly avacados and bannanas) could potentially leave my stomach feeling bad. This happens with a lot of food I eat, but for some reason, if I eat any of these things in the morning or if it tastes too weird, my stomach begins to work against me. Of course the health benefits I noticed from eating certain vegetables like carrots during lunch was that I would feel more full and enegized after eating them. I also ate clementines during lunch. Sure they were messy and hard to peel, but they seemed to help relieve my stomach in some ways, though I'll still be careful.

  11. This past week I gave up going to eat fast food. I only ate out two tiems the past week and other than those two times I ate food that was prepared from my house. I noticed that I had a lot more energy to go and work out and I wasn't as tired at school. I also noticed that I wasn't uncomfortably full after every meal I ate. After giving up eating fast food and not going out to eat that much, I find myself wanting to give up fast food for more than just one week. I think that even just cutting out fast food out of my diet will help me lose excess wegiht and help me have more energy to stay fit and workout. I plan on trying to workout more this next week as a part of the Healthy Me challenge. I want to keep doing the challenge so I have something to work towards and help me stay healthy. My lifestyle needs to alter just a little bit before I got off to college and I don't have my parents there to tell me what I should and should not eat. This Healthy Me challenge will help me stay on tract and help me stay fit.

  12. Last week I really watched what I was eating by limiting sweets and not eating fast food. I have the biggest sweet tooth so it was difficult to completely eliminate that from my diet. In addition to not eating sweets, I made sure to eat healthier meals. I would start off every day by eating eggs and fruit for breakfast. For lunch I had a salad with the dressing on the side so there weren't as many calories consumed. Then for dinner, I had grilled chicken and with two different vegetables as the sides every night. In addition to watching what I ate, I also worked out for an hour and a half everyday. It was suprising how much better I felt throughout the day. I had more energy and wasn't my usual lazy self. Although this was just a 5 day challenge, I am trying to continue with these habits for a healthier me.

  13. Last week I gave up sodas for a week. Most sodas are very high in sugar and also addictive. But when I stopped drinking for a week I've noticed a dramatic change in my diet. One thing was I could fall asleep during night because I didnt have all that sugar and caffeine in my body. I was also eating a lot healthier, and I wasnt crashing throughout the day. Although I only gave up sodas for a week I've noticed a dramatic change in my diet, and hopefully I can continue this for longer than just 5 days.

  14. Over the last week, i have been eating less to no bread, and any carbs. I have been eating good proteins, like chicken breast, fish, and shrimp. Also i have been eating lots of vegetables, and fruits, but not much to be non healthy. I have been doing this diet because, since playing football next year, i want to go into camp in the best shape ever. I go to velocity everyday but Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I work out for about 2 to 230 hours everyday. As well as working out everyday and eating healthy, i also take all my protein when working out. Before and after. Since eating healthier, and getting back into shape, my body has felt better, and will as i continue for next couple of months.

  15. About five weeks ago i started on a cleansing and detoxification diet. I wake up and eat at least two fruits, a lean protein shake and preferably any form of whole grain wheat or nuts. I use to only eat three larger meals per day, but now that i'm breaking it into five smaller meals, i've noticed myself stronger and more energetic. Your diet and daily intake is 60% of your overall health and weight. For lunch; i like to eat two cups of vegetables, a lean protein (chicken/pork/steak) and any type of light carbohydrate. I have also been eating a protein bar right after a workout, then protein an hour afterwards as well. I have completely cut out fast food, trans fat and sodas from my diet. I've noticed myself change from being average to a little more cut.

  16. Recently, I decided to stop snacking on junk food when I get home from school. Instead of eating goldfish and cookies I eat an apple, Almonds, or something along those lines. I have felt more energized after making these choices and plan on continuing this healthy habit, especially as I am preparing to go to college next year. Learning more about health and nutrition has really made me much more aware of what I have been putting in my body. I was always skeptical that eating better made you really feel better, but i am now a firm believer. I now go to Sprouts every weekend with my mom to get more fresh fruit and nuts. While I have always eaten fairly healthy, this change has made a big difference. I am very pleased with the results and encourage people to try this as well.

  17. For the past week or so I have been trying to eat at least two fruit everyday. I have realized fruit are actually really good and leave you feeling more alert and awake. Some of the fruits I have been eating are apples, strawberries, kiwis, oranges, and blueberries. I go through phases where for a couple of days I like one fruit than i change. In addition to eating more fruit I have been trying to drink more water. I drink at least 5 bottles of 16.9 fluid ounces of water during school than drink at least one before and after school. I have noticed that i never feel thirsty or weak while i am working out or running. At the beginning of this I was just doing this for the class but now I have decided to continue eating more fruit and drinking water. Next week I am going to try to cut out fast food and eat more vegetables. Slowly I am going to begin to change my diet and become more healthy.

  18. I have given fast food up for the past 23 days and I really have noticed a change. I do not crave french fries or frosties anymore and instead of eating Wendy's for lunch I replace it with a sandwich. This replacement has not only saved me money, but it also has improved my diet immensely. I feel more energized for longer periods of time and my sandwich fills me up for longer periods of time because my body does not burn through it so fast. Yesterday was the first day that I ate fast food, Chik-fil-a, and I actually got sick from it. I do not think I will be eating fast food very often anymore and this has inspired me to eat a much healthier diet.

  19. I really like Coke and I drink a can of coke everyday. Over the spring break I decided not to drink a coke. First day I had little headache but I drank a cup of coffee which made me feel better and I tried it for 5 days. But after 5 days I drank soda because I had a hard time giving it up. Now I am trying to replace soda with coffee. I think soda is bad for our health so now I drink 2 cans of soda every week, but I am trying to give it up completely. I used to drink soda during lunch in school but now I drink a bottle of gatorade instead of soda. When I remember that 5 days, it feels good now.

  20. Over the past couple of weeks, I decided to give up my obsession with soda. I am a big fan of all types of soda and end up drinking two or three sodas a day. I took this challenge, and substituted soda for healthier options such as water, propel, and juices such as apple and orange. At first, this was hard and I always felt the need to get a soda out of the fridge or order one a restaurant. Since the switch I have felt more energized, not so bogged down, purified, and way more hydrated. I used to drink sodas whenI was feeling very thirsty, because that was the only beverage to my disposal. However, this was a terrible idea because sodas only dehydrate even more, potentially causing you to drink more and more till you are no longer thirsty. After the switch, I would drink water or propel after exercise for hydration. I noticed a dramatic change, I only needed one bottle to feel completely hydrated and no longer thirsty. From this challenge, I have now decided to keep drinking water and other healthy substitutes instead of soda. I will probably still keep soda in my diet but will limit the number to only one per day. This challenge has positively influenced me to make healthy choices to better my life.

  21. For me watching what I eat and my snacking when I am bored are the two hardest things. For my five day challenge I decided to try and watch what I ate, but along with I focused on my snacks. My meals each day were a poached egg with spinach, along with a fruit for breakfast. For lunch a sandwich with a fruit, and vegetable. Lastly, dinner was different each night, but I focused on smaller portions, each meal my drink was water. Already with those changes I began to get in a routine to discipline myself, but after school I would always want a snack, so each night I would take a handful of almonds, and a handful of dried apricots. I was less hungry and craved less after those five days I still try to watch the portion size and I look for the healthier choice when it comes to my snacking. Overall I have feel better, and I have a better mindset that I don’t always need something to eat I can go out and get some exercise.

  22. For the last three weeks I cut soda out of my diet. I usually would have around 1-2 sodas everyday and never really thought much about it. During spring break, I decided to cut sodas out completely and instead drink more water and sometimes have iced teas or fruit smoothies. I have noticed that I get less thirsty throughout the day and generally feel more hydrated. Also I do not feel as tired and sluggish as I would after drinking a sugary soft drink, and I feel way more energized throughout the day. Plus getting water is always cheaper than getting a soda, so along with health benefits it has also had monetary benefits! After a couple days I really did not crave soda and I haven’t missed it at all! I definitely think that I will no longer drink sodas because I definitely no longer crave them and I feel good knowing such an easy switch in my drink choices can easily improve my health.

  23. Over the past week, I gave up meat and became a vegetarian. It was surprisingly not as difficult as I thought it would be. Because I wasn't eating meat, I had to find other ways of getting protein, such as beans and peanut butter. Since I was able to easily replace my meat intake with other sources of protein, I didn't really notice a huge difference in the way I felt. However, I did feel slight changes. Not eating meat made me eat less fast food because every time I go to a fast food place I almost always get something with meat. Not eating fast food helped me have more energy and I didn't feel as full and lazy after meals. I don't think I could be a vegetarian forever, but I think I could now give up fast food a lot easier.

  24. I am a person who is discretely addicted to junk food as snacks. For the past week and a half, I have cut out after school and late night snacks as much as I could and replaced junk foods like ice cream and chips with fruits. I actually have always loved fruit, but would always choose a packaged form of junk over natural fruits. In doing this for a week, it was hard at first, but after the third day, I would actually looked forward to eating my apple or nectarine after school. In making this change, I felt much more energized for the rest of the day, and the need for a nap after school was nonexistent. Not only did I succeed in this personal challenge for a week, but I have adapted this lifestyle. I understand that eating healthy to break habits takes discipline and will power, but once you start to break a habit, it only becomes easier and more enjoyable.

  25. I have given up fast food and not eating past 9 o' clock for the past month. After making this decision, it was really hard not to crave into my hunger for french fries. But after about a week, i could sense a change in the way my body felt and looked. I chose not to eat after nine o' clock, because thats right around the time that i get off of work. If i chose to eat every night at 10 I wouldn't get any exercise or any form of physical activity. So that late night meal would not get burned of and all that fat would keep packing on. It is hard considering that i have worked for the past five hours and i'm very hungry, but self motivation helped me get through it. Since i have started this challenge, about a month later i have lost a total of 8-10 pounds. Im so proud of myself for sticking to this lifestyle and even though the challenge was five days, i'm going to keep going on with the choice and live my life healthy.

  26. For this challenge, I decided to give up soft drinks. I'm the type of girl who drinks at least one diet Coke a day. My habit of one diet Coke a day started at the beginning of the school year, and has been a bad habit since. In the beginning of this challenge, it was hard for me to not drink diet Cokes. As the days progressed, I noticed that each day, it was easier to not drink one. I was no longer craving my daily soft drink. Because I was no longer craving the diet Cokes, I ended up going longer than five days without one. I have noticed a change in the way I feel each day now. I feel healthier, and I feel like I have more energy throughout the day instead of having an energy crash from the caffeine. Since I have felt good about myself without drinking diet Cokes each day, I will try and cut out diet Coke permanently from my diet!

  27. I gave up drinking coffee for this challenge! The high amount of caffeine in coffee was really bad for my body and so I gave it up for a while. The first couple days were hard because I had really bad headaches and all I wanted to do was sleep all day. I've been drinking coffee every morning for at least a year now and it was really difficult giving it up. After a few days I started being able to be more alert and awake without the caffeine. I felt a lot better because I didn't crash a few hours later coming off of caffeine. I decided to only drink coffee every so often instead of every day that way I'm not completely hooked on it! Hopefully I'll get to the point where I won't really need to drink it for energy.

  28. I decided to give up fast food and soft drinks for this challenge. Honestly being underweight and being unable to gain weight from whatever I eat, I thought changing my diet healthier wouldn't make any difference for me. I drank at least a can of soda a day, and usually got fast food for lunch. So for this challenge, instead of my typical diet I drank fruit juice and sweet tea, and ate sandwiches for lunch. After a week I actually noticed some changes which were surprising because I didn't expect anything. I felt more energetic throughout the day and felt more awake instead of the usual tiredness I felt. I also feel healthier and actually feel good after eating a full meal instead of the usual bad feeling after a filling fast food meal. This challenge has made me choose to eat a bit healthier, but I wont lie and say that I will stop eating fast food meals and soft drinks once in a while!

  29. I'm the type of person who really needs her Dr Pepper every day. So I decided over spring break to cut out Dr Pepper. It was hard to enjoy drinks that weren't as delicious and sweet as Dr Pepper, but after a while I managed. I would get headaches often and honestly that kind of put a damper on my Spring Break. But I felt healthier toward the end of this. I try to drink Dr Pepper less and I try to drink water more. I think it'll help for me to be hydrated with actual water :)

  30. Last week starting on Sunday, March 25 I decided to make a better lifestyle choice; I gave up soda for a week. In the past, I have had at least one glass of soda a day, usually at dinner time. Very rarely would I go a day without having any soda. After a week of not drinking any soda, I was surprised that I did not feel any different. I was told that giving up soda would at first give me headaches, but over time would make me feel way better and give me more energy on a daily basis. I think the reason this did not happen is because my preferred soda is Root Beer, which does not contain caffeine. Root Beer contains mostly sugar, which I still got through my diet anyways, therefore I had no withdrawal effect.

  31. Since spring break, I've been eating all three meals a day. Usually, I'm terrible at waking up early enough to have breakfast so I have to skip it. Now that I've been making the effort to wake up earlier just for the purpose of having breakfast, I'm actually more energized. Not only do I have breakfast but I also have small snacks during the day rather than having large meals. I've been able to adjust to sleeping a smaller amount with more energy from the food I intake. I have been able to find a love for fruits by having fruit salads and yogurt more often. I've been eating nuts as my snacks and I've been able to train my jaw to be able to withstand eating hard things like nuts even though I have TMJ. The way I've eating has been very beneficial in my energy level and even my weight!

  32. This past week I decided to do daily workouts and drink only water. At first it was very hard because I usually have at least one diet coke a day, and the first day I got a really bad headache, but as the week went on it was easier each day. I worked out an hour a day and tried some yoga classes. After this 5 day dchallege I feel like I have more energy amd will continue working out daily and drinking less soda.

  33. I decided to add whole wheat into everything I ate. My family and I eat a lot of pasta so I asked my mom to make whole wheat pasta instead and we liked it somewhat, it was definitely not something we were used to tho. I like sandwiches a lot also so instead of using the white bread my mom originally uses, I bought Whole Wheat bread and I loved it! It added so much more flavor to my sandwich and I'm going to get that from now on. I'm really glad I tried it!

    ReplyDelete
  34. So recently my mom has been buying whole wheat bread for herself and my dad, and last week I decided to try some. I made my turkey sandwiches with whole wheat bread instead of potato bread for the past eight days. Not going to lie, the first day, it was pretty disgusting. Especially the crust. It had multiple grains on it and the bread was just too crunchy for my liking. The second day wasn’t much better but on the third day I sort of got used to it. I think whole wheat bread is an acquired taste because as the days went by it started tasting less gross. Also I could tell how much better the bread was for me because I actually stayed full for quite a few hours after lunch was over, which never happened when I made my sandwiches with potato bread. I will definitely start using whole wheat bread on a daily basis since I know it’s really good for me and doesn’t taste much different compared to other, unhealthier breads.

  35. For the past five days, I have been eating fruits instead of junk food after school. It was difficult to adjust to healthier food but it got easier as the days passed by. I do not crave eating potato chips and would rather eat an apple as a snack instead of something unhealthy. I feel more energized and I just feel better because I know I am eating something that is good for me. I also have been watching the amount of food I eat during lunch and dinner. I eat a salad for lunch and I noticed that I do not eat as much at dinnertime.

  36. Part of my usual routine is to stop by Sonic on the way home and purchase a sweet tea. For this challenge, I decided to eliminate my sweet tea and drink only water. The first day of this, I felt tired and had low energy since my body was used to the extra boost from the caffeine. But after a few days, my body became accustomed to the change, I felt very healthy. I noticed that sweet tea does not actually hydrate my body; the high concentration of sugar usually leaves me feeling more thirsty after I drink it. I did some research about this and found that my sweet tea has 73 g of sugar! This large number, combined with 290 calories, 75 carbs, & 20 g of sodium motivated me to continue drinking only water. Drinking that many calories and grams of sugar is not worth it, and it actually makes me feel less hydrated than simply drinking water.

  37. I have given up eating fast food, and since then I have been feeling so much better. Before I gave it up, I didn’t eat it all that often but I did feel such a huge difference by completely taking it out of my diet. I don’t get hungry as often because I eat something much healthier and more filling than what I would eat at a fast food place. Removing fast food as an option has made me eat healthier than what I used to. The food I eat gives me so much more energy that I can work out more often and longer than what I used to. Taking it out of my diet has made me feel healthier and better, I am not as tired or lazy. My diet without fast food has made me feel so much better and it is something I will continue to do as best I can.

  38. Over spring break, I decided to go running everyday. I NEVER exercise due to lack of time, and so I thought it would be a good thing for me to start doing. It took a couple days for me to get used to it and I was so sore! It made me realize how inactive I have been and so since spring break, I have gone running at least once a week. I've noticed a few changes such as less stress, and also I am not as out of breath after going up a stair case, which is a definite improvement. I'm glad i've started doing this because I didn't know that it could reduce stress and I have found it extremely helpful with school!

  39. A couple of weeks ago I decided to give up soda products for a week. I realized that I was drinking it frequently and that was adding too much sugar to my diet. I decided to replace soda with water and sometimes unsweetened iced tea if I needed something with more taste. At first it was difficult to cut out soda because I was having less caffeine during the day, so a couple of days I had a headache on and off. Once that passed I realized I was feeling much better. My body was getting flushed better and actually had more energy because I wasn’t crashing from the sugar rush anymore. Since that week of doing a trial run without soda I have decided to drink soda only when I am really craving yet. I noticed that soda actually adds a lot more bad calories to my diet that I can replace with healthier calories. Even though I wasn’t looking to lose weight, it helped me slim down a little bit. When it comes to the Play 60 and Let’s Move Challenge, I already workout more than an hour a day due to my gymnastics schedule. Right now I have an injured foot and I am still going into to practice a couple of hours a day to work on my upper body and do everything that I can do to stay in shape.

  40. About a month ago, I decided to give up soda to see how it effected my diet. For me, the first week was really easy and I didn't have any craving for coke or caffeine. However, during the second and third weeks were harder because I am so use to drinking coke every day, I had to make it a habit to substitute water whenever I went for a coke. At the end of the 4th week, I decided to have a mini coke, and honestly it didn't taste near as nice as I remembered. Personally, I don't feel any healthier, but I have gotten into the habit of substituting water with coke, which in the long run is the healthier choice.

  41. This past week I decided to cut out sweets from my diet and drink 10 Ozark bottles of water a day, because at school I do not drink water as much as I should. So on my first day of cutting out sweets, it felt like I was lacking energy, but as time went on and by drinking a lot of water, I started to feel more energized. By cutting out sweets and drinking water, I was able to sleep more peacefully too without waking up in the middle of the night. This probably was because I was not on a sugar rush as I usually am. Also, drinking more water made me feel a positive energy around me and more motivated to accomplish any task. I guess there are psychological benefits from drinking water and cutting sweets. This could be a good new change to continue.

  42. For the past month I have given up soda for lent. Replacing soda with water has surprisingly given me more energy. At first it was hard, because I love soda, but after the first two weeks I no longer really crave them! Water is a really great alternative and I'm so glad I tried it!

  43. I used My Fitness Pal for about 2 weeks, then lost the motivation to do it, especially because the school food was so hard to account for. While I was using it, though, I started making healthier choices about what I ate, because when I ate unhealthy foods, it was really obvious how bad some of the stuff I was eating was for me. I learned a lot about the nutrition content of certain restaurant foods, specifically how much sodium is in everything that we eat. Even though I don't use the app on my phone as often, I still try to eat healthier foods.

One other thing that I did was change up my order at Chipotle based on some of the things that we talked about in class. I used to go back and forth between burritos and bowls, but now I've decided to stick with the bowls to take away what the tortilla adds. In addition, I get brown rice instead of white rice, and to my surprise, I liked it so much more. It adds lots of flavor, and it made me feel a little bit better about what I was eating.

  44. Since it was Lent season, I gave up meat for Lent. Also, instead of 3 big meals a day, I switched over to little meals/snacks several times during the day. The one thing that changed the most for me was that I did not feel hungry all the time. Waiting for lunch or dinner always caused me to think I was starving and overeat during mealtime. But with eating snacks throughout the day, I didn't feel hungry as often. Giving up meat was not to difficult, but I did not replace the protein I had given up with other source. So the first week I had a percussion ensemble rehearsal after school and I nearly passed out. I then added fish and nuts back into my diet so then I can get through the percussion rehearsals and concert without passing out. I would keep my new habit of eating small meals throughout the day.

  45. For the past five I have made sure I have been drinking enough water. I realized that normally I do not drink anywhere near enough water. So, I have been bringing a water bottle with me wherever I go and drinking at least one water bottle every few hours. At first, it was really annoying to always have to worry about having water with me, but it only took the first couple of days for it to be something I didn't have to think about-I just naturally did. So far I haven't noticed too many differences except that I feel fuller and can handle the heat better when I am running outdoors. I want to keep up this habit because I know water is so good for so many things, like preventing illnesses, aiding in relieving joint and muscle pain and flushing out toxins!

  46. A couple of weeks ago I decided to cut out candy from my diet. I used to buy candy at lunch everyday, so I decided to give it up for five days in order to be healthier. It was really hard at first, considering the row of candy that can be found in the school store and all the temptations but I stuck with it. I found that when I didn't eat candy I actually felt more energized and more alert than when I did. I found that the candy only gave me about a two to three hour sugar high instead of providing real energy for my body. I actually have not eaten candy since I started this assignment because I believe that I have honestly seen results and have felt better without it. I am glad that I gave it up so that I can live a healthier life and feel better everyday.

  47. I decided to walk to school for five days . I don't normally exercise and it takes about twenty minutes to get to school by walking so I thought it would be the perfect way to get my daily exercise. It was kind of hard the first day and I was tired by the time I got to school, but the on the fifth day it was a pretty easy to walk the distance. One of the noticeable benefits of walking was that I was definitely less stressed than I normally am. Also I had more energy throughout the day and I didn't fall asleep in my class as I usually do. This experience wasn't as bad as I thought it would be and I probably will walk to school again but only on days where it's not to hot!

  48. I thought it was going to be difficult to really experience a difference in my diet due to the fact that I already lead a pretty healthy and active lifestyle. However, I did find some kinks in my diet that I was more than willing to get out of there. First off, I went to the store with momma Evans and made sure that we are totally off the wonder bread. We are now on Nature’s Own. It’s pretty legit (2g of dietary fiber per 50 calories and its whole wheat). I realize that it’s a small change, but hey, a lot of little changes can make a difference. I also decided to cut out Whataburger Wednesday for this week. While I felt a little saddened by the emptiness in my stomach due to the lack of the oh so delicious delicacies that the fine establishment of Whataburger sells, I couldn’t help but feel a little accomplished too just because I felt like a more healthy adult. Let’s face it; self control is key if you want to lead a healthy lifestyle. That’s what a week without Whataburger Wednesday has taught me. Imagine how I would feel after month, or a year without fast food! Challenge accepted, everyone.

  49. For the past 2 weeks, I've been doing the stairmaster everyday. I have for the past few years worked out a lot frequently, but I wanted to get really strict and use one of the hardest machines consistently. I noticed that at first my leg muscles grew (suprisingly they have more room to grow), but they also are more toned too so they looked thinner in some parts. I plan to keep this up somewhat, because I've really noticed a difference!

  50. For my challenge I decided to give up sugary drinks, like soda! Every other morning I would go to Sonic and buy a medium Dr. Pepper just so I had a boost of energy to start the day. Dr. Pepper is my absolute favorite soda so cutting it from my diet was difficult in the beginning! It was easier to do when I was at home because we rarely buy soda at home, but when I was at school I had the frequent temptation to stop at the vending machines. In the beginning, I felt very sluggish and tired mainly because my body was dependent on the caffeine I got from my soda, but later on I started to feel more fresh and clean, because when my diet was based solely on water and milk, my skin cleared up a bit and I did not have to deal with the crash that came with drinking soda. I have learned to drink soda in moderation, as well as up my intake of water daily.

  51. For the past few weeks I've given up sugary drinks from my diet and have just stuck to drinking water. Ive never liked soda but I love lemonade, cranberry juice and slushies from sonic. I thought cutting these drinks from my diet would be really challenging but after a while I just got use to it. Drinking water and cutting out all the sugary drink has made me feel healthy plus even my skin looks healthier.

  52. So, over spring break I tried giving up sodas for that whole week. At first it was hard for me to do because every time I wanted to get something to drink out of my fridge I would see soda. So I had to get my mom to go along with on giving up sodas. That way she would stop buying them. Throughout the whole week I had to ask for water every time I was eating out with friends. At first it was hard but after the days went by it got easier. I noticed that I could fall asleep easier at night because I didn’t have all of the sugar and caffeine in my body. This also helped with me not sleeping in so much over break. I am hoping to keep up with not drinking sodas anymore, since they are not good for you.

  53. For the past week and a half I have eliminated fast food from my diet. Fast food has always been a pretty big part of my diet because growing up playing sports, driving thru a fast food place was always the fastest and easiest option after practices and games. Ever since i have eliminated fast food i have noticed a huge difference in my energy level. Now that i am making dinners at home and packing my lunch, the food i am putting in my body has made me fee so much healthier and refreshed. I don't get a slugish feeling after my food settles, I get a boost of energy. Also eliminating fast food has made me feel more relaxed and I don't get a lazy and tired feeling. I love the changes that this decision has made on my health, and i am going to continue to cut it out of my diet.

  54. For my healthy me challenge I decided to make an effort to get out once a day and take part in a healthy activity whether it be running around the block, riding my bike around town, or going to play a pickup game of soccer. I started doing this during spring break and ever since have felt a lot healthier and more energized. I only planned on doing this for five days, but now that I know how good it makes me feel I think i'm going to keep it up for as long as possible.

  55. For the past few weeks I switched out eating sugary cereals for breakfast with oatmeal and fruit. I also started running everyday again. My mom usually leaves me a bowl of cereal without the milk on it for breakfast, so I had to ask her to stop doing that and make oatmeal instead. I have been really unmotivated to run this year, but now that I have a specific time to run it is easier and it makes me feel good after I do it. Especially after eating a healthy breakfast! I definitely notice a difference in how I feel now. I didn’t the first few days because I was just tired and sore, but now that I have gotten into the habit of doing it I feel more awake.

  56. My mother is one of the clients for our Healthy Challenge, and I decided to do it with her. I have been cooking healthy meals at home and I have been more active. now, I actually think about what I eat. Things changed immediately. I have more energy at the end of the day. I have lost 15 pounds and I am feeling great! I have made this a habit and I'm really happy about the progress that I've made.

  57. For as long as I can remember, I have always skipped breakfast. Not really for a particular reason other than not having time for it. So what I have decided to do this past week is to wake up 15 minutes earlier then usual and actually sit down and have breakfast. With the help of my mother, of course, my breakfast the past few days have consisted of eggs, oatmeal, greek yogurt, and fruit. The changes I have seen is mostly the energy that I have. I have had more energy the past few days that I have had in a long time. Another factor that I have seen is my diet throughout the day. Usually when I skip breakfast I tend to always be hungry throughout the day. But when I eat breakfast in the mornings I am less hungry and tend not to eat as much as I usually would. I feel great and am going to continue this..time willing!

  58. For the past 2 weeks I started running at least a mile everyday and balancing out what I was eating. I used to eat alot of Carbs one day and alot of protein another. So I decided to measure it out by eating close to the normal amounts you are supposed to have each day. By doing this I wrote down how much of carbs or something I ate to keep track of the portions. Not just with random foods but with healthy foods like greek yogurts and organic spaghetti. Also I kept track of how fast I ran a mile and it increased each week, I think because I was getting used to running Every single day and because I was balancing out my diet. I feel like my body has been rejuvenated in a way, I feel a lot better and I have actually been keeping up with what I am doing, it is now a regular habit of mine to run and keep track of what I am eating.

  59. For the past two months I have given up soda. The changes I have seen in replacing soda with water have been tremendous. I used to drink soda or juice everyday, and replacing it with water was very difficult during the first couple days. I gradually got used to just drinking water, and avoiding soda became a habit. I feel great about starting this challenge, and want to keep up this habit and continue to cut out soda from my diet.

  60. Giving up drinking sodas and eating fast food for just 5 days was actually more challenging than I had thought it to be. Drinking soda had become such a regular habbit for me that I never even noticed when I was or was not drinking it, and eating fast food is so common now that it doesn't even seem bad seeing that almost everyone eats it. When I did the 5 day challenge, the first day was most definitely the hardest. On the first day I had the most tempatation to crack and just have a sip of a soda or go out with a friend for a bite to eat, but I resisted temptation. After time though it got surprisingly easier because I found different things to substitute for the fast food and the soda. I substituted gatorade and water for soda and instead of the fast food snacks, I ate things like apples and grapes. Not surprisingly, when I stopped fast food and soda, I had a much longer lasting feeling of energy in comparison to before. Before starting the challenge I usually would crash mid day and sometimes end up asleep in class, but with a new sustained energy from eating and drinking 'healthier' I last the full say without slacking in class.

  61. Over Spring break, I had decided to fix my sleeping schedule and try and sleep at an earlier time than I normally do. Before Winter Break, I would normally sleep before midnight every night, but after a few days of overnighters and taking naps during the day, my sleeping schedule completely changed. After Winter Break, I have been staying up until 2 in the morning or later and right after coming home from school, I would take a two hour nap. I haven't been able to change it back to normal since then. The first morning after attempting to sleep earlier wasn't very successful because, although I felt more awake and less grouchy during the morning, by the afternoon I was feeling sluggish and I ended up taking a nap. After a few more days went by, I had started to get used to having more sleep during the night and it got easier for me to sleep early. Now my sleeping schedule is somewhat back to normal and I feel a lot healthier. I think sleeping schedules are especially important for high school students because we're still growing and sleep is a way for the body to recharge itself.

  62. Over the past month i gave up drinking soda. I used to come home from school and drink a mountain dew and i would continue drinking them till late. I had about 5 a day and decided i needed to stop because it was unhealthy for me. I switched to vitamin water and only drink that or regular water now. once i stopped I immediately felt more energetic more refreshed and overall felt better. i don't have any sodas or drinks with caffeine in them now at all. Vitamin water is not only good for you but it has essential vitamins in it that you need to keep your body regulating normally. It is a way better drink that mountain dew or any type of caffeine drink that eventually makes you crash, and ironically i have more energy when I'm not drinking caffeine.

  63. For the past five days i have tried to at get 8 hours of sleep to improve my overall health! At first it was hard falling asleep in time for me to get the optimal amount of sleep to not be tired. Once I fixed my sleep schedule I felt a difference in my energy throughout the day, I only started to feel tired when I was ready to go to bed and start the next day. I plan to keep this up because it has had a really positive influence on my life!

  64. I took on this challenge and decided to give up soda for 5 days. This was particularly hard for me because I am addicted to soda, and I have been trying to break the habit. During this time I had to have my mom hide the sodas from me. I found out that I actually have more energy and don't have a sugar or caffeine crash randomly. I relied on water and other drinks to keep me going. I am going to keep doing this and cut my soda limit to 1 a week

  65. For this challenge, I decided to give up soda. I've been drinking soda for years so I thought this would be a good thing to give up for 5 days. Every time I wanted to drink a soda, I drank water instead. I immediately felt a difference. I usually went through out the day with little to no energy. Once I stopped drinking soda I had more energy through out the day and I didn't feel like I was dragging. Whenever I finished a can of soda, I felt sleepy and sluggish and felt like I had to lay down and take a nap. I always hated that feeling so not feeling sluggish after giving up soda was a nice change. After this challenge, I plan on not drinking soda anymore!

  66. I took this challenge and decided to give up juice for 5 days. This task was not very easy for me because I love juice so much. During this 5 day challenge I have caught up on drinking a lot of water and more milk to strengthen my body. Doing this not only made me feel healthy but it made me feel better as a person and gave me the energy to get up and work. Doing this challenge makes me want to continue to drink more water and milk.

  67. For this assignment i decided to give up sweet tea, because sweet tea is my weakness and i drink it all the time even though my parents tell me that too much of it is not good. Instead of drinking sweet tea all week i have replaced it with water to replace it. And other than my mom not being on my back all the time she liked the idea of me drinking water instead. My teeth felt cleaner from drinking more water than the brownish color of sweet tea and when i ate out this week water's free so it helped my pocket a little bit on that end. After drinking a lot of sweet tea I would be really energized for a little bit then crash off of a sugar high. With water im at a constant. More water from here on out.

  68. When I thought about what I could give up for 5 days I decided on soda because I have a dependency on it. Every morning I foun myself reaching for a diet coke to get me going through the day. The first couple mornings without the caffiene were rough and I got some headaches, almost like withdrawl. Buit after 3 days I could tell a signifigance difference in how I felt. I know longer crashed early in the afternoon finding myself inexplicably exhausted and all in all feel healthier and happier. From now on I will try my best to cut soda out of my diet completely.

  69. I decided to do the Healthy Me Challenge to see if I could actually last a few days without something I have or drink everyday. I decided to not drink any sodas, especially Coca Cola because I drink it every single day, and it also happens to be pretty fattening. I started last Thursday all the way through Monday night. It started off being easy the first couple days because I was still motivated to do this challenge, but after the third day is when it became pretty difficult. I'll be the first to admit that I am addicted to caffeine and whenever I am having withdrawals from it, I immediately need a coke. I wasn't completely happy or satisfied when I drank water to quench my thirst, but I knew it was better for me in the end. After a couple days of not drinking coke, I started to feel a little better about my health. I turned to other things that gave me energy such as oranges and also my energy stamina lasted longer than my usual caffeine stamina. Needless to say, I survived the challenge and didn't have any sodas for five days. I was quite proud of myself and learned that if I really do set my mind to anything, I will be able to accomplish it.

  70. During the spring break I gave up eating cookies and drinking soda for 5 days. It was hard for me at first, but I got use to it after the third day. I replaced eating cookies with granola bars and replaced drinking soda with water. Instead of staying home like I usually do on break, I went outside each day to go free running for 2 hours, which is running along with getting over or through any obstacle thats gets in your way. After doing all that, I feel stronger and more active than I have ever been. Doing all that really made me feel healthier and I am going to stick with new things I do now on a daily basis.
